Episode 140 - Moon Knight Comic Origin Story + Stand By Me on Retro Rewind

Before Moon Knight lands on Disney Plus this March 30th, we resurrect one of our old features here on POPX, "Origin Stories!" In this episode we give you the full back story of Marc Spector, from Earth 616 comic origins of the character, various incarnations throughout the years, and his involvement with the rest of the Marvel Universe. How much of the new limited streaming series will harken back to the comic canon of the character? We will discuss what we know from the trailers, and give you the full run down prior to the show's launch. We also discuss the Stephen Kind adaption of his short story, "The Body," in the 1986 film "Stand By Me" on Retro Rewind.

Episode 139 - The Batman Spoiler Movie Review + Flight of the Navigator on Retro Rewind

From the gritty streets of Gotham, key political figures are being murdered, and it's up to one crime fighter to solve the Riddler's string of clues and puzzles to end Gotham's nightmare. Inspired by the animated story arc of "The Long Halloween," the film brings new light (and darkness) to one of DC's greatest superheroes, Batman. We give spoiler heavy discussion reviews, as we break down our most enjoyed moments of the latest incarnation of the caped crusader. The Batman stars Robert Pattinson, Paul Dano, Zoe Kravitz, Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, and more. It is directed by Matt Reeves. We turn the clock back to 1986, and revisit one of Disney's most beloved childhood space journeys in "Flight of the Navigator." We'll share the technological wonder of how this movie was created at a time long before modern CGI, and our cherished memories with the film.

Episode 138 - The Book of Boba Fett Series Review + Police Academy on Retro Rewind

It was the series we got that we didn't even know we needed, and somehow the magic of Disney and Lucasfilm, spearheaded by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have given us something truly special. The continuity, and expanded Star Wars canon universe is explored in this Mandalorian spin off series that focuses on the back story of Boba Fett after we last saw him plunge into the sarlacc pit in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. It gave beloved fans of Boba Fett the back story we truly felt this anti-hero of Star Wars deserves. Reprising his role as Fett, Temuera Morrison returns from the prequel trilogy and delivers a stunning performance as the well noted bounty hunter. We will explore easter eggs, highlights, cameos and review the series as a whole. We also visit the 1984 cult comedy classic, Police Academy on this week's Retro Rewind.

Episode 137 - Cobra Kai Season IV Review + TRON on Retro Rewind

We're back! It's 2022, and POPX is ready to hit the ground running in the new year. Kicking off this year's season of episodes, we're starting with none other than Cobra Kai season 4. We'll break down character development and story arcs, and predict where things may be going in season 5. Terry Silver is back, and boy does this cast of characters feel his impact throughout the season. We also turn the dial back to 1982 and visit Disney's pop culture classic, TRON. Despite lackluster box office numbers when initially release, this film has gained icon status over the decades, and is touted as being "ahead of it's time." Episode 135 - Marvel's Hawkeye + National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation on Retro Rewind

Marvel has done it again with yet another installment of it's ongoing MCU storylines with Jeremy Renner reprising his role as the Avenger Hawkeye. We pick up shortly after the events of Avengers Endgame, and get a chance to delve deeper into Hawkeye's past. With new companions and now an apprentice Kate Bishop, Clint must now pick up the pieces of his own life to help to help shoot a few more arrows.
